J Dick Peddie was one of the sons of the Dick Peddie family, a prominent firm of architects operating since 1845 to the present day in Edinburgh.  He worked as a tutor and scholar and was employed by the Young family (Wm Young, one of the founders of Lloyds of London under the 1874 Lloyds Act). J Dick Peddie painted both in Surrey at the London estate in Charlwood ( Stanhill Court – now a hotel), and at the Young family’s game estate at Loch Tummell.
